His keen interest in social justice has led Joe to volunteer with numerous community agencies and organizations. In 1996 Joe was named a United Way "Community Hero" and Olympic Torchbearer for the Centennial Olympic Games. He carried the olympic flame outside of Philadelphia on its route to Atlanta. Joe has served as a member of the Lancaster County United Way board, Project Blueprint and Latino Empowerment Steering Committees, Vice Chair of the Lancaster County Convention Center Authority board, Lancaster County Human Relations Commission, Pennsylvania Association for Adult Continuing Education (PAACE) board, Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce board, Leadership Lancaster, Lancaster City Housing Authority board chair and is currently a member of the Lancaster Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)'s Diversity Committee as well as 2016 member of the Human Capital Executive Research Board for Talent Management Magazine.
Joe Morales, Sr. is President & CEO of the J. Morales Group, an enterprise that is the culmination of his life's work as a professional nonprofit administrator, educator, trainer, facilitator and community volunteer. The Brooklyn, New York native and "Army Brat" relocated to new communities often as a child which led to a lifelong interest in culture, community building and human relationships. Over the past thirty years, Joe has been an English as a second language instructor/supervisor, diversity and inclusion consultant, Executive Director and popular speaker, trainer and presenter at the local, state and national levels.
Joe earned his BSEd Degree in Secondary English Education from Millersville University and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Penn State University where he was admitted to the Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society for Public Affairs & Administration. In 2010 he was awarded a John Baldwin Fellowship by the Lancaster County Community Foundation and completed the Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management program at Harvard University Business School in Cambridge, Mass. Joe was elected to Lancaster, PA's City Council in 2008 and completed his four-year term in December 2011.
